driving change,: one step at a time

Having studied sustainable development and history, I had time to reflect and think about global issues that we took/ are taking part in and are experiencing.
I would like to share and discuss my understanding on such human actions, experiences of producing a documentary on plastic pollution and its reception, and address the importance of being happy, hopeful and support each other in this world which seems to be lacking it the most today.

aliya chojoo

Aliya is very passionate about our environment and its protection. Having studied sustainable development and history, she had time to think about how human action impacts positively and negatively the world. Aliya recently made a documentary about plastic pollution in Mauritius and believes that change within society and ourselves start foremost with raising awareness, and that's why she will be talking about that during at the wellness festival.

A conversation circle to explore our relationship with our environment and how we want to show up as good caretakers of the Earth: how do we relate to our environment? How do we relate to the current environmental situation? Are we ready to show up and be examples of what we wish to see more of? How can we all show up as good caretakers of the Earth and live in right relationship with the rest of the web of life? In this conversation everyone's opinion, questions, point of view and ideas are welcomed as we explore together this theme and create space in our life to share about these questions with others, creating connections to the subject at hand but also to the community present. The conversation will also be punctuated with local information and ressources when needed so that we all leave feeling empowered and ready to start taking action toward the paradigm we wish to see - if we wish to do so.

victoria desvaux

‘’Is there another way to do things? Could it be more positive for all involved? What would that look like?’’ are questions that drove Victoria on quite an interesting journey for the last few years: from studying Social Services Work at University and hosting creative workshops in NGOs, to going on an apprenticeship for her Permaculture Designer Certification while working in the local recycling industry and then working on various [and very different] local projects related to the environment [from schools to festival grounds], as well as to volunteer on and coordinate citizen-led initiatives related to that subject.
All these experiences, as well as overseas travels to visit and help on eco
-initiatives, brought her to believe that we became quite disconnected from the world that surrounds us, be it from the environment that we depend on to survive but that we mindlessly abuse, the people that surround us or even from our-self… And that this very disconnection was at the source of many of the ‘we can do better than that’ situations we see in the world.
GWAWR services was hence birthed in 2018 with the wish to create spaces that facilitate re
-connection to Nature; these spaces can be physical eco-spaces or spaces of time we create in our busy life to explore these themes, through workshops and events.
she was also personally looking for spaces to discuss, explore and brainstorm these environmental themes with others, and hence created these Conversations workshops when I realized that others might also be looking for opportunities to do so.

Meet Meling and Kris, the couple behind Vegan Islanders. Not only are they plant- based foodies but they also love sharing all their best spots and recipes to their followers and hopefully in the future do recurrent vlogging. Three years back, they noticed that they needed to make veganism more known on our island, thus the creation of a page to keep track of their meal creations and inspire people to try them. But veganism is much more than just the food part, there are bigger things at stake and that's why they also decided to launch their own label of vegan products starting with an organic charcoal teeth whitening powder and bamboo toothbrush. We believe that a better future starts with small consistent steps!

A few points we will be sharing with you during our talk:

-How we became vegan

-Why go vegan?

-Benefits of a vegan lifestyle

-The impact of veganism on our planet

-Recipe ideas

French of origin, I have been living in Mauritius for the past 20 years. Four years ago I have started importing and distributing in Mauritius the menstrual cup LadyCup, that empowers women and enables them to Protect the environment: no more waste

Their health: no more chemicals,

And their wallet: huge savings on the long-run, together with being able to live their feminity without restriction: 12h protection, swimming, etc. In order to satisfy every woman willing to shift to reusable - but not ready to use the menstrual cup - I have launched 2 years ago the LadyPad: an organic bamboo and organic cotton reusable pad. And then - to complete the offer - I have launched this year the absorbent and leakproof panty SochGreen. "no trash, no rash, more cash!" :-) I shall be happy to share more information on those 3 sustainable alternatives to disposables - and show samples - during that wonderful event!"
